Default Winch Question

I have a 04 scab that i have started taking off road on some minor trails. Sense its a 4x2 I know its a matter of time till i get stuck. My question is how powerful of a winch would i need to assist me out of a little mud. Tractor Supply has a 2000 pound champion winch for $80, would that be enough for self recovery?

Thanks for your reply. I figured that was too weak but i was hoping i would'nt have to spend $400+ on one. Guess I'll just go easy until i can save up for one.

If you don't want to spend a ton get a Smittybilt or Rough Country winch, I would get the Smittybilt one if I was getting a winch.

Those Rough Country winches seam to be the most bang for your buck. Ill look for one when i get the money (working part time after school). Thanks for your help 4x4wolf.

yep, 8,000lb minimum, that's what I have and it gets the job done pretty good. if you get a winch and have to use it just be sure not to overheat it. use it in intervals to keep it from overheating.

Winchs can come in handy a buddy of mine has a 12000 pound warn on his 80 f250 and he dared another kid to drive down the embackment at the river that gos throgh town. The kid did it and to get it out we had to anchor the 250 to my f150 to get the kids 4 runner out
