Default width of rims?

I am going to be putting a 6 inch lift on my 2012 F150. I think I will be staying at 17 or maybe going up to 18 inch rims so that i can have more tire. What width of the rim should I get?

How wide of a tire are you trying to get? If you look at the spec for the tire you are looking at, they usually give you a range of wheel widths that are acceptable.

this is the recommended tire for this lift....35x12.50 R18. I think i should go with an 8inch width or would 9 inch width be too wide and require me to do some trimming?...what do you think?

I think 12.5 wides usually require at least 9 wide wheel. Factory wheels are 8.5 wide if I'm not mistaken. Could be wrong, but again every tire is different, so I would choose your tire first and get the wheel that fits the bill. Most wheels you can order in different widths, but find the exact tire you want and read the specs for appropriate wheel width. If you know which tire you want we can help you find that info for the wheel!

A 9 inch wheel is just about perfect for a 12.5" tire.

I was looking for a similar answer. I have the 2013 17" raptor rims on my 2012 fx4 Eco and was looking into a 6" lift. I run 315/70/17 BFG KO2's on the rims. Would I have to upgrade to an 18" rim/tire combo in order to install a 6" lift such as the Rancho or RC kit??

Quick Reply: width of rims?
