take your first couple or three grand and put a cage in your truck first. 20 inches of front and 25 or 30 in the rear can get you killed without one. i wouldn't do anything before i had a cage. 2 inch .0120 DOM for your f-150 is what SCORE likes i think. i'm not kidding about this . it's the cheapest life insurance you can get and your truck won't ever be legit without one. especially in an off road vehicle. think about it... oh yeah, it also adds to your cool factor as well to people that know what's up..

ummm...what? I dont want a cage in my truck cuz I still want it to be a true truck since it is a Lariat, sure it would help but im not planning on doing anything too crazy. and its going to be more like 16in up front and about 10 w/ deavers in the rear, I want to be able to tow and haul like a real truck.

whats DOM?

DOM is a type of tubing [not pipe] that's used in most forms of racing for fabrication of roll cages for racers safety. it stands for drawn over mandrel which is a manufacturing procedure for mild steel tubing. the prefered material is 4130 chromolly but it's expensive and a bit tricky to properly weld. a decent fab shop can put a cage in your truck you can 't even see. it can be incorporated in the trim with a little effort.

hmmm possibly Im sure there are ways to beefen up the frame too. Id really like the interior to stay roomy and not look to racey.

what do they weld it with? just MIG with different wire/ gas mix? or more of a TIG job? im curious

if you're not gonna use your truck much then just throw a locker in it and put some decent tires on it with some decent by pass shocks. set it up like a stock full type truck.. you don't need a long travel kit to go out and not wanna haul *** in your truck. it would be a waste of money. your truck is plenty capable for your needs without a long travel kit. ford raced them for years without LT and kicked ***.. those early walker evans dodges and early venable and vessels fords had hardly any travel and almost always finished races. just go out and be careful and good luck. hope you keep the rubber side down.

well i am going to use it. I also want it to be functional. Im not going to try and go 200 out there. trust me, with it i would use it. then I could keep up with most of my buddies w/ their 4x4. I have a hard time as it is.

also, if your trucks $1000 apiece shock set-up required for proper LT kits is'nt properly tuned, it will handle like s==t off road and will be a chore driving it on the highway. don't believe me? go to different websites like race-dezert. com and check the shop section. you'll learn alot i promise you.

That cost was from the camburg shop in huntington beach ca. I have recently changed my mind and I am going to go with the 6.5 suspension lift with deaver leaf springs in the back. the cost is mainly what scared me away because I do not need a race truck. I am using it for less intense offroading. to do the LT kit it is time consuming and once I did some research I can understand why they charge so much for the install.
