What tow chain should I get?
Hi everyone,
I have a 97 F150. Every once in a while some idiot in my neighborhood will spin his car out into a 5 foot snow bank or ditch and because I have a truck I feel obligated to help. Last night I had to pull a guy out of a ditch (2WD chevy btw) and I had to use his tow strap because I dont have one. I figure before winter comes I should buy a chain. What diameter/ grade/ tensile strength/ length do you recommend?
Any advice appreciated

I dont like chains...too much mass if they break they are doing even more damage. Just look for a heavy duty tow strap. Mine has a towing strength of 10k pounds and a breaking strength of 17k...
And if your on a tight budget...harbor freight has some for cheap.

Yeah...stay away from chains..they take out back windows and mess up tail gates.

My neighbor and his wife were out in their yard pulling rotten pine trees down with a chain and tractor. She was driving the tractor then on one of the last trees she had to ****** it a lil harder. Chain popped off the tree swung at an upward angle and hit him across his eye and forehead nearly knocked his eye into his skull. After it bounced off his head it then hit a tree and embedded so far into the tree they had to ****** it with the tractor to pull it out. He lost most of his vision in that eye, and there is still a big scar on the tree out there.
I have also head many stories about people getting stuck bogging and using a chain to pull em out and the hook pop off the truck and end up in an engine block. Be way better off getting a tow/****** strap.

Ok. After all the near death stories... I think I'm getting a strap.
Are they looped on each end? Do I need to buy any rigging to attach them to either vehicle? Hooks or rings etc?
Thx

Smittybilt 3"x30' 30,000lb tow strap on Amazon for $25. Pick up some d-rings for attaching it and you're all set. I have one of the hitch mount d-rings like oldfloyd mentioned and keep 2 more with my strap. Works like a champ.
