I have a 2010 supercab f150 that weights in at 6,000 pounds and my buddy has a 8000lb Warn winch for sale for $150. all it needs is a new winch cable and new starter solenoids. Would taht winch be strong enough to pul the truck out of mud or would i need to invest in a 12,000 pound winch?

I was going to buy a 12k harbor freight one. A friend said he used his over 100x to get him out before he broke. So it's worth it he said for the price 100%. I went there to look at it and saw this flyer. So now I'm def picking it up!

depending how much time/effort/$$ you want to put into getting the winch running, you could put in a new solenoid box to replace the older system.
picture attached below, but there are many write ups online on how to re-wire in one of these boxes instead of the older/larger way.
makes things a little less susceptible to water, and smaller package if you're remote mounting the control box.
another thing to think about, and mentioned already, is if you need to replace that cable (if it's old or frayed it's a good idea) you may want to go to a bit larger/stronger cable (or goto rope). it means less length on the drum (say 85' instead of 100') but knowing it will handle the added weight of the rig is great peace of mind.
great work restoring a great tool for your truck, if you've never used one before, read up on safety precautions, and proper use... these can be very dangerous in the wrong hands!!
