Default what size winch?

I have a 2010 supercab f150 that weights in at 6,000 pounds and my buddy has a 8000lb Warn winch for sale for $150. all it needs is a new winch cable and new starter solenoids. Would taht winch be strong enough to pul the truck out of mud or would i need to invest in a 12,000 pound winch?

Most winches are line rated on the first wrap of the drum.
A tree strap and a pulley will double the pull.
I'd buy it - that is a great price!

I've only got an 8000 lb winch and its gotten me out of the mud a couple times. I used a tree strap but I dont have a pulley and it worked good for me.

$150 for an 8k Warn? Yeah I'd jump on that.

Carry a ****** block and tree strap just to be safe.

The general rule of thumb is to take your GVW(Gross Vehicle Weight) and multiply by 1.5.
This would be the minimum winch pull you need.
