ok if anyone could help it would be great, i just took a 1987 ford f 150 and removed the straight six motor and replaced it with a 1988 ford bronco 5.0 v8,everything works except my starter started grinding and my motor wont turn over i tried a new starter only to get the same out come,still grinding,i did not change transmissions or dust covers and i did not change the flywheels,i have taken this thing off 100 times no missin teeth or any damage i just dont under stand any help will be kool thanks

Do you need to shim the starter? Take it off, jump it. If its turning properly, this might be a fix. Just a hail mary, but its the first thing that comes to mind assuming you can crank the motor over manually eliminating that. Ive had to do that to a number of old mopars if we swapped blocks from odd model years.

Im thinking its the flex plate, the one on the six banger is the same as my v8 except where the starter sits up in the hole,im gonna pull the trans today.

My 2000 did that and when we had my wife's 2005 also did it. Tried everything but finally changed the starter solenoid on the firewall and fixed my problem.

Was your starter turning and making a grinding sound?

When I hit the key the starter is like its getting in a bind or not lined up right.

Yes it was, was awful for a long time. People kept telling me it was the flexplate but had three different mechanics tell me that the plate was fine. Glad too cause this was a whole lot cheaper fix.
