Default Tuscany's not geared right?

Why would ford sell such an expensive truck with a 6" lift, tall tires and not change the gears? 1600 rpm @ 60 mph? and kicks back to fifth gear going up this slightest incline. Very disappointing. Are they all this way?

Every year the screws get tighter on Corporate Average Fuel Economy (cafe) and gearing is one way the auto makers can get the numbers up. Yes it sucks to have a tall tired truck with 3.55 gears , and 2 overdrives. A 4.56 ratio would make a huge driveability improvement, but would cost you a little mileage.

I checked my vin and it's actually 3.73s my 2012 Eco had 3.73s with 33" and level kit, tuned, it was fast until it threw codes from every module on the truck all at once. They offered me more than what I paid for it 14 months ago and were marking down left over 2014 Tuscanys.

It's just a different kind of truck, with the 6" lift and 5.0L with 325/35.4" tires. I guess if it really bothers me I could pay 2k to gear it right. Money's a little tight after that trade in right now.
Thanks for your reply.

No Tuscany doesn't change the gear ratio on any of their trucks. I believe all the F-150's they do come with the 3.73 gear ratio. They add performance intake and exhaust as the only performance mods.....that Ford will allow. FYI, Tuscany is a privately owned company not associated with Ford.

Yes, I found this out with a search of the vin. My insurance is only going up $12 a year from my 2012 FX4.

It's just listed as a FX4.

Mine came with a pro comp tuner by hyper tech. Haven't plugged it in yet to see what's loaded on it. It has a speed calibration cd and usb cable I'm guessing to tell the truck what tires your running but the gps speed sensor does that or so I'm told. Just looked Tuscany up, looks like their out of Texas.

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm, wasn't aware they included a tuner too. Tuscany (Ford) trucks are built in Elkhart, IN (www.drivetuscany.com).

I just did a quick web search, I'm at work right now not much time to look.
About the Tuner, I'm waiting on a reply from sales and the service dept of my dealer on this.

Thanks and I'm pretty sure that's what the sticker in the windshield says: Elkhart, IN.

I contacted Tuscany with my vin and was told "yes" the tuner comes with the truck and is only used for tire size calibration and no performance tunes.

I bet with proper gears, they might actually gain mileage. Going with 4.10's over 3.08's on 35's boosted my mileage in my f150 almost all across the board.
