I hit the concrete support that held a light pole in a parking lot once in a Ranger back in high school. It really messed up the suspension, there was even some initial concern it may have permanently messed up the frame.
It did get put on a machine and the frame was straightened. I didn't have time to get up to any speed before I hit that poll either, so in this case, while you may not want the insurance involved, you will definitely want it at least checked out by a shop to check for frame damage.
