Tips for offroading
#11
My biggest tip would be to never go alone. Have somebody ride with you and if you can get somebody else with a 4x4 to tag along that would be even better. Bring tow straps, a shovel and maybe even a come-a-long just in case you get stuck. Also if you're going out on stock tires try to stay away from real deep mud. Most importantly use common sense, and don't over estimate the offroad capabilities of your truck. Stay safe out there.
To the OP, you can beat on it as hard as you want...it's your money.

I just want to know where the breaking point is on these trucks. I know what they are basically capable of doing but I'm wondering if any one has any particular examples of how hard/weak these trucks are.
I mean I'm a fairly new driver when it comes to Ford trucks, I have always driven a chevy.

So you're an older feller?? Do you do your own work?? If not its gonna get expensive fast.
And it's all user discretion. You can beat on it and beat on it and break a bunch of stuff in a couple months, or you can go easy and enjoy and break nothing for a couple years.
It's really all it comes down, EVERYTHING breaks eventually

And if you come upon stand still water or a spot that looks like water is involved in any sorts (mud hole, stream), check the depth before you just go blowing through it.....
You'll be thankful when you find a spot that looks shallow and then you check it and it turns out to be a 6ft pit. Dont ask how I know.....saw a buddy make that mistake once.
