Default Stuck in 4W low...in the snow...any help?

Stuck in lots of snow in washington dc! 2005 F150 stuck in 4W low after driving in snow/slush/ice today for a few hours. Any ideas to get it un-stuck? Tried clearing snow from underside. Tried rocking. Still stuck.

put it in "n" then apply the brakes and then shift it in to 4wd hi or 2wd should work

WOW! Thanks!!!!! That worked! I was not a believer but tried it and it worked first time! Too bad the manual doesn't say that!

Why would you be driving around in 4Lo anyways?

I'm assuming it's push button and I see you already got it out of 4Lo so it's no longer an issue. For anyone else reading this that has had the same problem but has the lever, if you get it stuck in 4X4 (either 4Hi or 4Lo) try backing up real slow while gently pushing on the lever. When you get the diffs and the transfer case bound up sometimes that is the only way to unbind them. Gently is subjective, I have had to push the lever with my foot in one of my older trucks!

You use 4Hi when your in deep snow or on ice. All 4LO will do for you is put more power/torque to the tires and make you spin easier. Not to mention, your using lower gears, meaning your tires are spinning slower, which isn't good. Spin those tires to melt the ice! haha Use 4Hi next time.

I guess IMO it all depends on the snow. I've hit 2 feet of fluffy or wet snow in 4 high with no problem. Now last time I went out I had hit about 16" of hard packed snow and 4 low was the only thing getting around with them conditions. When I did use 4 hi it just felt hard on the drivetrain and struggled to dig for traction.
