Rea axle & Detroit Locker
Hey guys, noob here to the forum, veteran off-roader. I think F150's come with two different rear axles. the 2wd's come with the 8.8's correct? that's the little round gay axle. The 4wd's come with the larger, more rectangular cover axles correct? What is that axle? 9.75" semi-floater? 10.25"? 10.5"? I can't seem to find the Detroit Locker application guide stating they make one for a late model 4wd F150...
2ndly, assuming you can get a Detroit locker. How strong is this axle? Is there anything else you have to do other than a Detroit locker?

Trucks with the 6 cyl and 4,6 came with the "little round gay" axle. Trucks with the 5.4 came with the 9.75. Whether they are 4X4 or 2X4 doesnt matter. The 9.75 is a semi-floating "C" clip axle. Its comparable in strength to a D60 and there is a Detroit available as well as alloy shafts.

Not true, not all 5.4 trucks got the 9.75. You had to get the Fx4 or upgraded towing package for it

I think all 5.4s either have the 9.75 or, if they are HD they have the 10.25. Ive also read that the FX4 package has the 10.25 as well but Im not sure about that one.

Do you have 4wd and the 5.4? you probably do. It'd be easiest to check the list, or the door jamb and read the code. You can also ID the rear axle by shape/number of bolts.
