Default Question about CB's

So lets say your a poor college kid and would like to purchase a CB with dual whips in the bed. What would be the most practical setup for the money? Im not an expert in the quality of the different brands of CB's or whips so any input would be helpful.

Thanks.

Haha I had the exact same dilema a few months ago...it really depends on how much you plan on using it. I really cheaped out on my cuz I was on a budget and itll only reach out a couple miles now, but I really only use it on the trails or drivin somewhere with a buddy so it works for me. Go to a CB shop if you got one nearby and the guy there will probably help you out with whatever you wanna do

GO TO WALMART! They have the Cobra 19 Ultra III for $35...... usually is $50 everywhere else I looked and it has a PA hookup......

I have not set it up yet because I'm still trying to find 6' dual whips.. but can't find any...

But I know a few people with the Cobra 19... and even though it's $35.. it works great..

You can cheap out on the radio but spend some good money on the antenna and mount. All CBs are FCC limited to 4W radiant power, so you only pay more for more radio features (weather, back light, etc.). Firestik is a good brand. Goto http://www.walcottcb.com/index.php for some good information.

Cobra is a great CB if ur only using it on trails Midland make a good CB and its really small so wont take much space and im a truck driver dont know much about whip antennas but make sure u get a good coax and spend the extra money on the antenna it makes a difference then find you a CB shop to set everything if ur not experienced in that or u wont sound very good when you talk and please stay off channel 19

Get a cheap CB and a 300 watt amp. You and your buddies can reach many miles but stay off the popular channels.

Make sure to buy an SWR meter (can be purchased from radioshack) to tune the antenna to the radio.
