Default Preventing splash in engine

When hitting a mudhole it splashes water and mud up in the engine bay. I know things like don't hit it with speed and avoid water, etc but i was wondering if anyone made anything like a full skid plate or something that could prevent the water from going all the way up?

I havent heard of any full front skid pates or anything like that but what i have always done with my trucks if that is a problem is make the air box breath from inside the fender stopping the splash from getting into the air box, or make a snorkel.

well the other thing that u can do sometimes is take something like old mud flaps and sheet in the gaps underneath the radiator and the wheel wells to try and stop splashing, just something i have heard of but i have never done, or u could probably use a thin gauge steel

Don't block too much...the engine needs to be cooled.

as long as your radiator isnt plugged up it should cool fine, and you will never completely block all air flow

Here is what I did. It is a mud flap from a semi mounted to heavy duty gate hinges and mounted to the lower radiator support. Works decent, lot less mud in the engine bay. Also allows for proper air flow around it when normal driving. I know it looks kinda redneckish

i have seen that b4, seems like standard technique for mud racing lol, does it actually keep most of the mud and water from splashing in and getting into your airbox

I have not had any problem with mud/water in the airbox. Of course my airbox is a stock mass air style box flipped backwards so it pulls from the fender side. I then used the k&n fipk2 single tube kit, and a piece DIY stainless air intake tube ran into the box. I would take pics for you, but since I am 9000 miles from my truck it is little hard to do. Post #13 has a pic of the lower box. http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ped+air+intake
