I would recommend having your local trustworthy tire shop sipe the tires if you decide to go with the toyo MTs.
If you go offroad, or drive on gravel roads often only have the tire shop sipe the center lugs, to prevent tearing chunks out of the lugs.
If you don't go offroad, have them sipe the entire tire, and remember to rotate them religiously and keep tire pressure where it's supposed to be at to ensure you get the very most out of your tires.
The siping really helps in the wintertime, and wet surfaces as it gives more gripping surfaces, think of it as having five or six smaller "feet" for lack of a better term; gripping the snow/ice compared to one bigger "foot" resulting in less slippage and more control.
