I've thought about building a off-road rig with a 4.5L Deere engine. It'd take a lot of custom fab, and the truck would have to be extremely heavy. You'd have to reinforce the front end. You would want at the very least a one ton drivetrain. Basically though for the money and time it would take to do it, you wouldn't see enough torque gain over say a 5.9 cummins(which they have ford swap kits for) to make it feesable. But it would be cool...

the f150 svt raptor is the one truck i'd spend fourty grand on in no time but it would have to be the 6.0 gas engine!! thatd be sick as hell!!

In 2010 CAT will no longer makes an over the road engine so the 3\4 and 1 tons will not have a CAT. I have heard that ford is woking on its own diesel engine. I am planning on putting a C-7 or a 3126 in my F250 when the PSD gives up 305,000miles and still rollin. Also... I am in the process of putting a Cummins 4bt (identical to 5.9 but 4 cyl. 5.9=6bt) in an '84 Ranger 4x4. Its my offroad rig, the 2.8 just didn't cut it anymore. Diesel is the only way to go. Great power, economy and durability. You can't go wrong going diesel.

Cat engine would be way to heavy. If your interested in Diesel power go to classicbroncos.com and look up the thread on Cummins powered Bronco's you will find all the info you need.

The small cat engine weighs less than the 6.9 and 7.3 Ford uses it is also a more powerful engine. I don't see Cat cutting out 2/3 of their market by dropping the on-road engines and emission retrofits.

its true
Cat is going out of the on-highway engine business, and have in fact formed a joint venture with Navistar to work of future engine platforms AND they are planning to build a HD (class 8) extreme duty truck together - more than likely a platform based on the International Paystar line.
