Default Offroad near lakeside, CA

Hey I did a search and didnt come up with much that i could use. Im looking for places to go offroading/camping around lake side. Im tired of finding trails that haven't been taken care of. Yesterday I went out with my wife and found a trail that was so over grown i scratch the crap out of my clear coat on all the trees and bushes. I want some good trails and open areas to just play. I need places I can find on my gps or really good directions. Im in the military and just got here not to long ago, so im not very familiar with places. Ive heard of glamis but There's got to be closer places than 3.5 hrs. Thanks for all the help in advance.

No I want to make it worth it to scratch the paint. I want to be able to go more than quarter mile before I have to turn around because the trail is so rutted out and over grown. My paint it chipped and scratched from the last owner I'm not worried because about that just want to make it worth by time, gas, and paint. Ill check out Gorman on day before I leave Cali just looking for somewhere closer to me for now.

Victory what? I'm pretty new to sd and the area originally from Utah. Direction would be awesome like I said before I don't think I went to the right place just went off my gps and it was right off some residential road had to drive over a curb. Where I went looked more like a bunch of people just drove over it so much nothing will grow haha.

I've lived in Southern California since 1962 and I can tell you there is no off road trails near you without driving 2 to 3 hours. Camp Pendleton took most of the good trail riding land near you, years ago. Glamis is NOT where you want to go unless you really want to tear up your truck. It's all sand dunes = high RPM's.There are mountain trails shown on BLM maps near Julian (Hwy 78) or you can go over the hill to Ocotillo Wells for some great riding.
