Default Off Road Lights (55w vs 100w vs 130w)

Hey everyone, I bought a cheap set of 130w lights off of ebay that were like $50 shipped. anyways, the bulbs have sh*t the bed on my twice now so ive had it with these lights, the wiring is fine but i think water/humidity is getting into the housing, there is no seal in the back of the light on the bottom. I have the lights mounted inside the grill in front of the radiator on either side of the emblem. i want to just replace the existing fixtures, what would yall recommend? the 130w were bright and would compliment the crappy stock high beams that are already on my 02 XLT. any recommendations? whats the difference between wattages? any suggestions? anyone selling lights?

I have two 100w and two 55w. The 55w I got off another forum super cheap, but wouldn't recommend buying them. The 100w are seriously 2x as good.

Spend $100 for some kc's or hellas and you can't go wrong.

You definitely get what you pay for and I'd only buy name brands. Lightforce is one of the best, with kc and hella being really good also.

is there a difference between companies like the big names KC, PIAA, Hella, etc? and i think they were offroad lights, is that different from driving lights?

I don't think so. The more expensive ones will be more durable. But that's about it.
Driving and offroad are the same to me, might be different to other ppl.

The biggest difference is spot vs flood. Spot beams will go farther and flood will go to the sides more.

Lightforce offers adjustable lenses so they can be flood, spot, or anything in between

You could try getting a 100w light from PIAA, KC or Hella and switch out the bulb with a 130w bulb, that's what I did with mine. Going from a 55w to a 130w is a little extreme IMO, too much heat builds up. As far a light patterns go it's all a matter of preference. If you drive offroad without many turns and need to see far ahead i'd pick the spot beams. For mudding, rock climbing and things of that sort where speed isn't much of an issue i'd pick the flood (or foglights). Driving beams give you a bit of both worlds-light ahead and to the side. Hope that helps!

I've got 4 55W on my roof and they put out just as much light as my head and fogs, they are good compliment for sure. I plan to do 8in housings with 55W HIDs eventually though

The outside 2 are aimed more for distance that's why the look brighter

The best light for the price would be the Explorer Pro Comp 8in 130w. Ive had my set for about a year and their great. Sturdy metal housing and never had any problems. They come in a driving pattern and really get out there just as good as long range lights. But thats just my opinion. Good luck.
