Default Off Road Dirt

Wondering if anyone knows the best way to clean mud off of my engine after an off road adventure? Decided not to spray water under there, to many wires if you know what I mean.

Most all engine components these days are water, so I just hose mine off taking these percations. Let the engine cool cold then start it and leave it running while washing. keep water away from are intake and electrical. Also avoid exhuast manifolds as they heat up. If the water is flashing off(steam) the engine is to hot to do this. When its all done the engine heat will dry it. I use compressed air to finish mine then some engine dressing I get from the auto parts store. WD-40 works for this but smells and can be flamible. That's what I do. Use the advise at your own risk.

I spray everywhere except the air filter. Some car washes have engine an cleaner setting. I use that to soak up the dirt and then I use the rinse setting. FYI all the connectors in my engine compartment were treated with dielectric grease. I do change the Coil On Plug boots regularly.
