Starting a Prerunner Project
I'm looking into starting a prerunner project and I'm just wondering what truck would be the best idea? Like what cab? What bed length? I just need a little more info! Thanks for any help

Depends on 2 things:
1) What are your goals?
2) How much money do you have?
Is your goal to go to have a full on off road race the truck? Or is it you just want a street queen with that "prerunner" look, or something in the middle?
Once you have a goal for what the truck will be used for then comes the money question. The smaller the truck (generally) the cheaper the build.
I see a lot of people start off with an old single cab 2wd ford ranger or toyota. These old small trucks can be purchased very cheep, so the cost of entry is much lower. Plus there are a lot more of them around so its easier to get used parts for them.
How ever much money you think your going to spend get ready to be very wrong. I think your best bet would be to find some one selling there prerunner. Because for what you are going to spend to build it you could spend about half and buy some one else s. I have spent probably over $60k on my truck (to include the cost of the truck) and I would probably be super lucky if I could sale her for $20k (I will never sale her).
Good luck on what ever you decide. Its a lot of fun to be able to jump a full size truck.

yeah again totally depends on your build plans. If your wanting to go all out long travel and 4 link, the bed length doesn't matter since your cutting the frame after the cab.
if you're going for a leaf spring rear, then I'd go six foot or shorter bed.
generally the shorter the truck, the more maneuverable it is. that being said, you'll loose some stability at speed if its too short.
Getting something with a V8 would also be a good decision, since you'll never want less power
Also, just be ready because you will NEVER get the money you put into a pre runner back out. they're an absolute blast but something is always going to break and its always going to cost more than you think haha

I built mine with a 2005 f150 fx4 5.4L V8 super cab, and I am able to get several feet of air with no issues. I also dont have any mods to the engine other thena K&N CAI and a edge power chip.

Ive followed his build and Pat knows the ins and outs of building a truck like this. listen to his advice.
also consult sites like desert rangers or racedezert.com
another great way to build a truck is to go on the classifieds of a site like racedesert.com and buy a truck someone has already built or started building. it will save you some major cash.

Is this bar worth it? I see most light bars being close to $600-650 for a light bar that big but I found this online and I'm wondering if it's complete **** or worth a shot..
