Default Heavy Duty tires?

My F150 is at home while I'm out here in California with a rental car. We were in Death Valley for a few days and would have loved to have my truck on some of the washboard gravel roads there.
The Racetrack road on the map says sharp rocks, heavy-duty tires recommended, otherwise multiple flat tires are possible.

So what do experienced off-roaders recommend here?
My FX4 truck still has stock Goodyear Wranglers on it, which I assume aren't particularly heavy-duty when it comes to "sharp rocks".
I've seen Goodrich K02 tires discussed in other threads. Do those qualify or would I be better with something else?

The KO2 is only available in 6-10 ply, most being the load range E which is 10 ply. Your stock wranglers are likely only 4 ply. 10 ply tires are what I would consider to be heavy duty for that type of terrain.

What he said. Have them on my truck and they are surprisingly comfortable, granted a little harsher ride than what the truck came with but that's part of the give and take.

OK, thanks guys. So I'll consider the number of plies and the KO2 when the time comes. My newish F150 has only 11,000 miles on it, so could be a while.
i did blow out a Goodyear Wrangler tire in my old Ford Ranger on a gravel road in Maine 12 years ago, so that was a shock. I could put my forearm right inside the freaking tire carcass...

The last time I was on Racetrack Rd., I broke a coilover shock. Of course, since I hate washboards, I was doing my best Mickey Thompson/Baja impression - doing 50+ mph the whole way down from Ubehebe. Tough tires are a must for this stuff. But don't stop searching once you get to the BFG. There are a lot better tires out there.

This is an example of where you can safely (uhm, ok, sort of) go with heavy duty tires (at least in Death Valley):

air down and slow down.

Its not just tires that fail out there.

washboard road at speed is like an impact wrench on bolts/nuts.

things start falling off.....just look at the auto debris out there.
