not really sure what kind of driving you are looking to do. But according to those two tire choices the goodyear looks better for mudding and the firestone for highway

Ya, you really can't compare those two tires. The goodyear is a maximum traction off-road tire. The Firestone is a all weather tire. Not in same category. would have to compare the Firestone Destination M/T for an equal comparison in my opinion.

Can't say from experience about the Goodyears, but I've got a few hundred miles on a set of Firestone Destination M/T 285/70/17. I replaced a worn out set of BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO of the same size.
BFGs were excellent on the road with firm steering response, and pretty good in the mud.
Destination M/Ts are EXCELLENT in the nasty deep stuff, but while pretty new, they suck on pavement...maybe because of the really tall tread blocks being a bit wobbly against the road causing a squishy feeling which would improve with tire ware.
Anyway, in the mud they clean out well and traction is great. I'll accept the trade-offs in performance because this is primarily a hunting truck and my son loves to show off in the muddy stuff when somebody else needs to be pulled out.
