FX4 modified or SVT Raptor
Just wondering what you guys think would be best in my decition. I got a 2000 f150 lariat 7700 and now its time to change for newer. I was leaning for the raptor but the price is steep. Would a '10 FX4 done up right be better than the SVT? I would use that truck for medium trails and mud, and still use it as a daily driver.
Tell me what you guys think, thx.

ive got a 2006 fx4 and love it, though there isnt much, if any, difference between the fx4 and the xlt. if you want to save money and are just going to upgrade anyway, forget the fx4, and just get the stx or the xlt. if you want a purpose built off road truck, hands down get the raptor.

I have 05 FX4 and my close friend just bought the Raptor. I love the FX4 and I have made some mods to it. There are slight differences with the FX4, like the interior, you get the sport cloth that you can't get in the other models and towing comes with it as well. My buddy loves his raptor, but he also got the basic version, not wanting all the fancy upgrades you can get with them. If you don't want all the fancy upgrades, but want the offroad package, I would get the Raptor because you will spend about the same. But if you don't want the rims or tires that come with the Raptor and you want to purchase what you want, I would go against the raptor. I would go sit in each one to see if you want what the FX4 has to offer, or your would be ok with XLT or STX and then add your own mods.

if you got the money for the raptor id say get that. you get a good suspension set up, 35" tires stock, locking rear dif, and the 6.2L. you could go the FX4 route but would have to add the rear locker, there are a few LT set ups for 4x4's out there but there like full on 18" pre-runner set ups costing a few G's.

The Raptor does look very cool but the lower gvw and towing weight (6000 lbs.) really makes you wonder if it is worth it. I have a 2008 FX4 and love it. It has the bigger gear ratio and skid plates which are a bonus. I took out the oil pan on a mini van years ago and I was not even off-roading. Plus ht egauge cluster, I feel, makes more sense- volts, oil pressure, coolant temp, etc are centered with speedo on one side and tach on the other.

The Raptor isn't really built for "trails and mud", it's more for high speed. The Raptor's extra width is actually detrimental to keeping the sheet metal smooth and the paint scratch free on trails. I would think a non-Raptor outfitted with a 4-6" diff drop lift and 35" mud terrains would fit your needs better.

I love the raptor, but actually just decided to go with an 08 lariat instead. The raptor is a great truck, but most people don't understand how the raptor works. First off, its all ball joints (which is never used offroad) and second the rear has blocks. If I were you, and your not looking to spend a whole ton of money, go with the camburg mid travel kit. You get an adjustable coil over, and an upper arm with extended brake lines and such. You get roughly 12" of travel (raptor gets 11.2 in the front) Then you can run 35's on whatever size wheel you want. Then you'll have uniballs on and tougher suspension. Then if you wanted to fork out about $700 more, get deavers for the rear to eliminate the rear block and you'll have a decent offroad truck for about $4000-6000K) Hope that helps. GET A 5.4 THOUGH. NOOO 4.6)
