Default FX4 locker

Just curious what the limitations of locker operation are? I know some manufacturers limit you to 4-lo, others have a limit on speed. what does Ford do?

yeah, meaning that the locker will not engage unless you are in 4-lo (nissan frontier's are like this although it is easy to mod)

Not sure what you're talking about. Ford's do not have lockers from the factory.

wow, really? so whats the 'electronic locking differential' noted beside the gearing for the FX4 on the 'build your own' section of the Ford F-150 website (also shown as an option with the 3.73's on the XLT).

Default 09+ fx4 locker

Only the '09 and up FX4s have a manual rear locker. You just pull the 4x4 dial out to engage it, works very well. Limitations are 4 wheel drive only (hi or lo) UNLESS you have the Raptor in which case it can be engaged in 2wd as well.

Thank you. exactly what I was looking for. Are there any mods to allow operation in 2wd on the FX4/XLT?

Not really, I think its written into the CPU to not allow the locker in 2wd, but the Raptor has a bypass (coupled with a completely different program for the throttle reponse and 4x4 system) so a mod may be available at some point. Also, the xlt has no locker at all nor an option for one, so far as I know.
