no there isnt.

there is the IWE's (your vacuum actuated locking 4x4 hubs) on the opposite side that are bolted on again, by 3 bolts. there are no other bearings.

Removing the CV should not affect anything, that big nut is to hold the CV in the hub. Just make sure you clean it before you reinstall the new CV. Dirt will get trapped in their spatially it is full of grease from the CV.

This is on the 04 to 08 models thou. Don’t know about other models.
Just in case anyone else finds this thread researching this topic- This may work fine on the '04-'08 (maybe newer) but will definately NOT work on the 97-03, on these trucks, the outer cv is what keeps the bearing pack together. Although it looks like a complete bearing unit, the cv joint end is what keeps the bearings together. BWT- the cv axles pictured above are from a 97-03 style, they use a larger nut on the axle end.

I know this is an old thread but I want to stress this point. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR TRUCK WITH THE CV AXLES REMOVED. Like mentioned earlier the shaft with the nut keep the bearing pack together, it WILL fall apart and leave you stranded. You may make it a short distance but DO NOT try and drive to work like that. Not the mention the 4x4 unit bearings are very pricey for a good motorcraft unit, you don't want to replace that for a stupid mistake.
