no you dont. i had to take my lift off to bring my truck into canada, i removed the entire front end, diff, sub frame, axles etc. used the stock 4x4 spindles with the outer hub/bearings in and it was fine for the two weeks i drove it like this til i put the lift back on.

u have to have the outer cv joint on the truck an by the outer cv joint i mean the top part of the cv axle shown remove the axle shaft an the cv joint that bolts on to the front diff, an put the outer cv joint (top) back on the truck without bearings an all that fun stuff
the cv joint with the huge nut has to be put back on

I have never tried it. But the hub and bearings are a separate assembly that bolts to the spindle (upright) and the CV joint is a separate unit that bolts to the hub assembly.
Removing the CV should not affect anything, that big nut is to hold the CV in the hub. Just make sure you clean it before you reinstall the new CV. Dirt will get trapped in their spatially it is full of grease from the CV.

This is on the 04 to 08 models thou. Don’t know about other models.

Isn't the hub the bearing assembly?
Correct me if I am wrong, but if it is hheld by 3 scrowes then that is what holes it in its placed.
