Default Do all M/T tires make you lose mpg??!!

So I'm trading in my current 4ply stock tires for some more aggressive off road tires.
I'm between cooper stt and duratracs. My stick tire size is p265/70/17

I want to go with a size bigger. 285/70/17. But I've heard that people lose mpg with both if these tires. Is this true? And how much of a loss are we talking?

Thanks!!

Umm yeah. Mud tires are much heavier, have higher friction with the road, and any bigger tire decreases mileage. I'd expect a bare minimum of 1-1.5 MPG loss.

Even stock size decreases mileage?

If you stay with a stock size it won't decrease much but it will decrease just because of sheer weight of the tire.

Definitely, for the first two reasons I stated. Weight and friction from knobby tread inherently cause a small drop in fuel mileage. There's no way around this man haha. Gotta pay to play.

Yeah I just don't know if I go with stock size or not. Anyone have pictures of one of these tires on their truck?

Yep pretty much, as it was said it all boils down to the weight of the tire.

Duratracs are A/T's not M/T's. But they are still heavier and probably more aggressive than your stock tires so you should expect a slight loss of MPGs if you go 1 size bigger.

All of Google is littered with pics. Just get what you want and don't worry about the gas mileage. It ain't gonna kill you.
