Thanks for the response. I did some basic searches like Gears and differential, but didn't have luck. I looked at page after page in the "off-road" section and it is littered with level kits / lift kits and what not. I was honest, I really couldn't find much talk about gears or their importance in this process.

I will keep hunting.

Thanks and sorry for the spam. I am glad to see people talking about it, at least on this thread.

Depending on what your truck came with you either have 3.55 or 3.73. If you have 3.73 you could run 35's and not have a huge power issue.

When I knew I was going to go to 37's I had a CAI, Power chip, and 4.88 gears installed before I put the new wheels on the truck.
Thanks. I will look up my car and see what kind of gears I got.

here, maybe this can help you:
go under your truck and get the code and go here.

For a 2004 5.4, there were 4x different final drive options offered.
Final Drive Options: 3.31:1 / 3.55:1 / 3.73:1 / 4.10:1

2181 RPM is a great truck RPM at that speed no mater what U R considering. U still got some RPM torque range to play with. Kinda like a governor plays with torque range.

Thank you. Educational reading. And learning more about this process, my search request are more focused and as you said, there are many pages. I am grateful for you taking the time to post.

I have 3.55 in my truck. I guess now I just need to figure out what I want to really do.
