Default Cooper Discoverer STT and more

Since I bought a side by side I find myself offroad more and more, most of the time pulling a trailer through parking a areas and muddy fields. I have been looking at upgrading to an aggressive A/T tire or a mild M/T tire. The. Cooper has caught my eye. I hunt, geocache, and metal detect as well, which all inevitably lead me off road. The factory Wrangler SRA's on my truck are awful on anything but pavement. I will be going with a 275/70-18. My big factor here is I need to maintain decent on road manners with the tire including wet pavement traction. Have any of you used the aforementioned tire, or do you have any suggestions for a decent light to moderate mud cleaning tire that maintains good on road manners? I also would like to stay at or around $1000. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

I'm going with the Cooper ST Maxx in 275/70/18. I've read lots of good reviews on these tires and managed to find a set of 4 for 1011.64 shipped to me. The 275/70 tire size from cooper is a bit bigger than from other manufacturers and is actually 33.4x11.2.

The 275/70 weigh in at 56lbs while the 295/70/18 weigh in at 66lbs each. Do you feel the 295/70 being 10lbs heavier make a lot of difference with gas mileage and power compared to stock?

If you're patient, keep checking Discount Tire's Ebay page. Every 2 or 3 months they have a coupon code for $100 off $400. They limit the coupon to 3 transactions, so you can buy 2 tires at a time. They also ship for free.

Thanks for the info guys. There's several tires I've been looking at. I'm afraid an AT won't give me enough off road traction, but I'm afraid an MT will be awful on wet pavement. In eastern Ky most of the roads are curvy and narrow.

I've had the STTs on my truck for the last 22k miles and they are not bad on wet pavement. Maybe not as good as an A/T of some sort but they are nothing to complain about. They are awesome offroad though, in mud or snow.

I had the Goodyear Duratracs on my last truck and those were good in mud, snow and on wet pavement. They might last a little longer too, just a thought.

Anytime you add more wheel weight or rubber contact surface to the road you will feel it in the pedal and at the pump . Going from a 275 to a 295 , say it's only 10 pounds heavier but you have way more rubber on the road due to the 295 being an 1" wider ..... I went from oem 265/70/17 to a 285/70/17 ... lost about 3 mpg , Your going to notice some loss in giddy up especially from take off ... I have to mash the gas a little more to get going now , compared to the oem tires with a tune .... But I need a tire I can count on for anything and so far these rock Love them ... The 5.0 still gets up pretty good when I need it to ... Buddie of mine a bout messed himself when I stuck it to pass a couple slow pokes Said ... Damn this truck hauls it dont it ... Yep .. its a FORD

The truck had 285 65 on it when I bought so they were already slightly larger then stock but I got a sct tuner and get the same as before the larger tires. I wanted a 295 (metric 35 pretty much) which is why I went with it the power is good still but slightly less fuel economy before the tuner.

The coopers are great tires! From my experience though if you travel down gravel a lot, it will eat them alive! That is their only downfall. They chunk bad on rock.
