Default Coilover Question

My Question:
1. Why won't the Fox coilovers work at minimum height?
They are coilovers. The WHOLE IDEA of coilovers is ride height ADJUSTABILITY.
I'm not sure I'm getting the notion of "preload".
I guess I understand the spring is loaded up as the lower perch is raised. It's pushing against and compressing the spring on the fully extended strut tube, then after installation, the weight of the car compresses the unit into it's operating range?
So, if I wanted a unit optimized at stock ride height, I'd need a custom length(shorter) strut tube?

History:
I have a 2015 F150 which I want to upgrade BUT keep stock height. The truck JUST makes it into the garage(height wise) and I'd like to keep it that way.

I did the Fox 2.0s in the rear and wanted to do the 2.5s up front. Fox says they do 0-2" lift. I called a popular vendor who told me(both in email and over the phone) "Nope, they won't work at 0" setting". That goes for the 2.0s and the 2.5s.
I'm pretty disappointed and don't know where to go from here. I could do Bilstein 5100s and stock springs, but that will be WAY more labor and the stock springs suck.

Give stage3motorsports a call you can ask them about their Boss coilovers. I have the Fox 2.0 didn't know we couldn't adjust them 0

You'll want to call BOSS/F150/Halo Lifts directly (vendor on here). Alex will make anything you want, the way you want it.

Curious if you ever got an answer to this. I'm considering the Fox 2.0's, but no interest in lifting or leveling.

I have fox 2.5's and they've been lowered to only have about ~.25" of preload on them. This is putting me slightly higher than stock. They ride like a dream. You can see the top of the spring retainer peaking out from the dirt bag.

They work fine with lower preload. They actually provide a softer ride. Don't ever look to a vendor for technical information. Go right to the source, call fox. I've called them a bunch of times while dialing in my setup. They support their products.

Ha! I'm running ICON 2.5s all around. I have the basic units up front and the CDCVs in the rear. They ROCK! The only regret I have is NOT going for the CDCV up front.

Here's a link to my experiences and install. Read thru the whole thread. There's lots of info in there and I wrote up the rears too.

I'm selling the Fox 2.0 rears. I'll sell the front 2.5s if I get a decent offer(I want the CDCV).
