could i pull my 97 f150 out if i were to get stuck using a come along? me and all my buddies have 2wds and the place we are going is a gravel road covered by 20 years worth of mud and slime it has telephone poles every so many feet so if i brought a come along just in case can, i use that to pull myself out or should i use an actual winch?

Make sure it's a beast of a come along, for safety reasons you should use recovery gear rated for around 2x the weight of the truck.

There are kits to convert hi-lift (farm) jacks to do just this, check that out for a value option. EDIT: Heres a link: http://www.autoanything.com/winches/...x?kc=ffproduct

ive got a 3 ton comealong, a hi lift jack, and a few chains under my toolbox at all times for just such an emergency. id go with a 3 ton because it uses a 1/2 inch cable. i pulled a mid-70s panel van (one heavy POS) up on a tilt bed trailer with it.

yea but mud puts a lot of suction on your tires, even just a little bit. ive bent/broken tow hooks and hitches before. broken chains and straps. once a tire goes in its constantly getting pulled on

Do you guys know of one that you can recommend for my truck. I dont have a winch and it would be great to have something just incase. Which one are you guys using? Is there any other gear that i need to buy for me to use it? I'm kind of new to off roading. Right now i carry a ****** strap and a shovel. But it would be good to have a backup incase im wheeling alone and i get stuck. My truck weighs about 6,000lbs
