Default backspacing and offset confusion help

basically im just a little confused about the lift kits. i was going to pickup a 6 in zone lift for my 01 supercrew and says backspacing 4.5". ive got some custom wheels that i already had on the truck when i bought it. they are 17x8 with a backspace of approx. 4 in and from what the website says -06 offset. prolly about an inch of clearance if that between knuckle and tire with 265's. im wanting to re use these rims and upgrade tires obviously but im guessing it wont happen. my confusion is if i need to get new rims, 4.5 in bs is the max right? cuz less would be more clearance and then youd want positive offset but not alot i would imagine? can anyone clear this up?
