9th ANNUAL NJ PINE BARRENS CLEANUP
9th ANNUAL PINE BARRENS CLEANUP at WHARTON STATE FOREST
9 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 more to go and we've all done this for a DECADE!!!!!!!!
Come and take part in the largest one-day volunteer event at Wharton State Forest in New Jersey. On Oct 24nd 2010 at 9:00 AM the 9th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP will begin with a sign up at the Atsion Ranger stations [where raffle tickets will aslo se sold to help defray the cost of wings] and conclude with the raffle and wing fest at the Pic a Lilly restaurant on rt 206 [they always help us out too]
Last year 200 men, women and children collected two 30 cubic yard dumpsters full of trash while making new friends and enjoying the wonders of the pines. While doing this they worked up a voracious appetite that was satiated by hundreds of wings donated by clubs, businesses and individuals. Before leaving there was a drawing where gift certificates, a gold music record award, books, under hood microwaves [big shout out to IKEA] and tons of other stuff were generously donated by members and their businesses. LIke the past 7 years everyone had a great time and said they couldn’t wait till next year.
We are now soliciting past participants, 4 wheel drive clubs and local and national business’ to contribute time and resources to make this year’s event another overwhelming success.
This as a great opportunity to showcase a partnership for keeping our state lands clean and our right to transverse them unhindered. The rangers and staff at Wharton have embraced us and lend their time and support to help us have a safe and fun time. Terry at the ranger station has been a godsend to us and NOW MORE than ever the state of NJ park and forest system needs our help.
ALSO REMEMBER TOYS FOR TOTS..
Last year we collected a lot of stuff for needy children for the holidays at the sign up spot at the Atsion ranger station!!!!!!!
Please be a part of this worthwhile event. Contact Michael Tarsia to see how your family, organization or business can contribute to this worthy cause.
Thank you in advance for your dedication to a beautiful, clean and accessible state forest system.
(stolen from another forum i was browsing cant remember which one)

So here's why this is important. New Jersey had very limited off road resources because of some people. I had heard rumors that Wharton is closed, but my FSJ club pres sent me this:
Lou,
Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question about 4wheel vehicles in the Pines.
There is a move going on by some of the extreme right wing of the "greenie group" to close Wharton State Forest to not only 4wheel drive vehicles but also hikers and horses. This has been going on for a while now with really no success. Some parts of Wharton have been temporarily closed to off road vehicles because of damage that the Rangers have found in these areas. The main reason for closing areas is partying and drinking/drug use. An example of this happened while we were on our summer Jeep-In. We found out that a group of teenagers were partying at Apple Pie Hill. We reported it to the Park Rangers and from what I heard after the fact the Rangers arrested lots of these folks. Another area that is constantly being monitored is 1/4 Mile Run. Lots of rowdy off roaders have caught the attention of thePark Rangers and a few times they have closed that park of the park.
Many of us belive that the best way to represent our sport is to naturally Tread Lightly whenever we're in the park. Another important thing to do is to participate in the Clean-up that happens every year. Having a good turn-out at this event shows the park officials that we do care about what goes on and we are willing to spend out time helping out.
Hope this answers your questions.
Hope to see you soon along with the unofficial "photographer". Hope that all is well with you and yours,

So hope to see lots of people out there enjoying what we have left!

Well it's official, I'm out. Went to go put in my new locker in today and realized whoever who in the rear end last screwed things up. At this point I either need someone with a plasma cutter and the hand of a surgeon, or a new axle. I f somehow I get this fixed I'll see ya there, if not ya'll have fun.
