Question 4X4 will not engage help

hey guys so last night we got like a foot and a half of snow, i go to work this morning and lone and behold i half to pull one of my buddys out because he thought that his dodge could jump a snow bank. So i hook up and try to pull him out and i start to spin. i hit the breaks make sure that i am not spinning and then put it in 4hi. NOTHING the same when i tried to put it in 4low. Both times when i tried i put the tranny in neutral. You could hear the clunk as per the norm when the 4x4 goes in to gear but this time nothing happened.could someone please help me out here what could it be. Both hi and low lights whent on when i tried to switch it in but other then that nothing. So could somone please shed some light on to what is going on with my truck. O and it is a 2006-F150 XLT 5.4 Triton.

Cheers
Chris

I have 2005-F150 XLT 5.4 triton. I was told on mine that the vacuum line that go too the hubs get leaks and they don't ingauge or disingauge. I have a clicking or popping sound when I turn? It does it once in awhile.

Question 4 wheel drive won't engage

Have a 2005 F150 XLT 5.4 Triton. Try to put in 4 wheel drive and hubs won't lock in. The transfer case is locking in. The front end is locking in. Anyone have any ideas as to what this problem might be?

I keep reading people talking about vacuum lines to the hubs.
I'd like to see a picture of these lines.

Most time with the push button 4x4s they are not shifted in and out of four wheel often and the ele motor (acturator) fails or the plug corodes.
The owners manual recomends shifting in and out of four wheel I think it's once a month or so. On the ford auto hubs...when the transfer case is engaged the axles begin to turn which causes the hubs to lock.
As stated above sometimes a little rocking helps...Little. When you come out of four wheel it is a good idea..recomended that you backup a few 10 feet or so to disengage the auto hubs. As I have replaced a few 12 or so of these hubs. Inside there is a "key" that sometime shears off or a series of washer/clutch looking things that wear out. I have not done any of the later model "IFS" but the older "TTB" D35 and D44s.
