Default 4x4 Low

I went muddin this weekend and therfore put my 1995 F150 Automatic into 4x4. I then tried to put it in 4x4 Low and the 4x4 Low light didn't come on(I'm talking about the light behind the words "4x4 Low" that make them iluminate orange). I turned my 4x4 off and the "4x4" lght that is on the dash(instrument panel) went off. I was thinking that it could just be the bulb that lights up the 4x4 Low button so when I turned the 4x4 off I pushed the 4x4 Low button and neither the 4x4 Low button nor the 4x4 light on the dash iluminated.

So for everyone who couldn't understand what I wrote above(which I can understand why you couldn't understand it), I believe my 4x4 Low isn't working but my regular 4x4 is. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Thanks
Bubba

Thank you very much for your help. I thought this was gonna be some big bucks to get fixed.

When I put the truck in N and hit 4x4 Low nothing happens, but when I put it in N and press 4x4 then 4x4 Low the 4x4 Low light comes on. So does the truck always have to be in 4x4 when I use 4x4 Low?

Also I don't here anything when I hit 4x4, but when I hit 4x4 Low I here it engaging. Does this mean my regular 4x4 doesn't engage or is it just not as loud as the 4x4 Low when it engages?

Thank you
Bubba

I think its just not as loud as putting it into low. My 97 makes no noise when going into 4x4 hi and it works. I hear a noise when going into low

yeah because low gears down the tranny to thats why you have to be in netrual to put it in and and take it out and also you have to step it in go to 4x4 then go to 4x4 low and do that in reverse to take it out

Beat me to it! When I first bought my truck, I tried getting into 4low just to see it jump. Had to read the owners manual to figure that out. I was curious why you have to go into N first? My buddys Tundra shifts right into 4low. (so he claims)

Someones needs to say it.....It's all in your owners manual.

for the '96 and older.... Stop the truck, put in N, hold brake peddle down, press 4x4 high button (it will light up), then press 4x4 low button (it will light up).

for the '97 and newer......Stop the truck, put in N, hold brake peddle down, turn knob to 4x4 low.

to turn off do the reverse.
