Default 4x4 f150 wifh 35's regearing

I've been wondering is you drive a 4x4 and you decide to put bigger tires on and you the. Decide to rehear your rear axle then do you have to re gear your front axle so they will be the same or does it matter

Yes you have to regear both axles. Really bad things happen if you only regear one axle and try to put in 4x4

Yes,both axles have to be the same and if you're planning on 35's I'd go with 4.56 gears. I've had both the 4.10 and the 4.56's in the same truck (which originally had 3.55) with 35 inch tires and definitely liked the 4.56 better. There was no measureable mpg difference and the lower gears had much better acceleration and throttle response. I'd like to regear the 05 I have now, but discretionary funds dictate otherwise.

Don't mean to thread jack but would 36's work under the 4.56's as well?

I have 4.56 on 35's and love it. If I had 37's I think I would have gone with 4.88 gears just my thoughts

I'm about to run 35s on a level, and I'm looking into re-gearing... what's your MPG? I currently average between 15 and 17. Obviously I'll be dropping that down, but I don't want that 10-11 city MPG. haha

The 05 I have now has 3.73's and 33 in. tires. If I drive 55-60 I get 16 on the nose. I would like to go to to 285/75-18s and 4.56 gears. What is your present gear ratio ? Also, with the increased mass/inertia of the big tires you probably WILL be getting 10-11 around town.

Damn.... maybe I'll stick with 33s. It's a stock 06 4x4. I think it's got 3.55, but I'm not sure. I'll have to check.

I doubt your city mpg is much better than that now.
