I've been wondering is you drive a 4x4 and you decide to put bigger tires on and you the. Decide to rehear your rear axle then do you have to re gear your front axle so they will be the same or does it matter

Yes,both axles have to be the same and if you're planning on 35's I'd go with 4.56 gears. I've had both the 4.10 and the 4.56's in the same truck (which originally had 3.55) with 35 inch tires and definitely liked the 4.56 better. There was no measureable mpg difference and the lower gears had much better acceleration and throttle response. I'd like to regear the 05 I have now, but discretionary funds dictate otherwise.

The 05 I have now has 3.73's and 33 in. tires. If I drive 55-60 I get 16 on the nose. I would like to go to to 285/75-18s and 4.56 gears. What is your present gear ratio ? Also, with the increased mass/inertia of the big tires you probably WILL be getting 10-11 around town.

I doubt your city mpg is much better than that now.
