Default 4Hi or 4Lo

I'm just curious what you all use for deep thick mud holes? I used to just 4Lo when I didn't have MTs but now with my Toyo MTs I'm able to keep it in 4Hi and let the tires work.

in deep mud use 4 hi unless your already stuck. the trick to it is to keep the tire RPMs up and keep your forward momentum going. im sure youve experienced it before, if you stop in the middle of a mud hole, suction sets in and its 3 times harder to get back going again

everyone has a different method for mud, but i always use 4low, i find that i can get the perfect amount of tire speed to clean the tires and i find its easier on my truck there is less lugging on the engine and less chance of burning out the clutch

keep the rubber side down

I recommend 4Lo for automatics. It puts less strain on the transmission and keeps the heat down. With the M5OD I used to use 4Lo to save the clutch. The 4.6 did not have enough ***** to shift into 2nd in 4Ho and keep the momentum. With the blower I was able to use 4Hi but that cost me a clutch. Now that I have a Kevlar clutch I will be trying 4Ho again.

4hi for things where you want to maintain momentum... like snow, muddy water, slick mud, etc.... 4lo for "climbing" activities where traction and torque are more important than momentum.

I currently use 4LO when I am playing. Helps the stock 5.0L get the wheel speed up and keep it up. When the motor is making enough power to get off the line in 4HI I hope to be able to step up there and make faster passes. Wish there were more options for rebuilding the BW1346, as far as gear ratios go.
