Default 4 wheel drive troubleshoot

so i looked through the troubleshoot guide. my 05 supercrew 4 wheel drive has been malfunctioning. light comes on, but front end wont lock in. gear ratio does lower appropriately. i raised the front as guide states, and front axle does not turn while in 4 lo. front passenger-side wheel turns freely in both directions. does this narrow down my problem list any? trying to determine cost of having this fixed. please comment and ask other questions if needed. thanks guys.

well if its possible c if the front drive shaft is turning, if the front drive shaft is spinning then its probably one of your hubs, also i have seen the splines in the slide joint on the drive shaft strip, so make sure both halves of the drive shaft r spinning, thats what i think anyways

ProZach, is this something you did because you had similar problem? I guess either way its worth a try. seems simple enough and not costly. awesome job on posting that. Dont know how i missed it.

So I replaced the valve and doesn't seem to fix the problem. When I removed the old one I heard what sounded like air pressure let off. Assuming this is the vacuum that y'all talk about. Does this mean I got a problem in my hubs or what?

You can pull the rubber hose off the back of the hub and check for a vacuum leak and vacuum force, put your thumb over the end. It could be a leak from the hose. You can check the hub to make sure it engages and dis engages, but it's a bit more work.
