Default 4 or 6 inch lift for a 2WD?

I want to lift my Ford whats the best way to go. What is a great lift that doesn't kill the pocket book. Dont want to sacrifice average day handleing and comfort.

Depending on your year, you will not find a 4" lift. I have a 2005 and none are made for that.

I am wanting to add a FatBobsGarage 3" front spacer / 1" rear AAL to my 2wd that should bring it up to about the stance of a stock (leveled) FX4. The kit is only $190 shipped from their website so if you get it and install it and decide it is not enough, you do not have much invested.

Do they still? Their was a 4" Rancho lift listed on 4wheelparts.com up until about a month ago. It's no longer there.

without looking at those lifts, i would say they probably make them for a 4 wheel drive and not 2. most people dont lift a 4x2 that high.

Thanks guys for responding that helps. I do have another question I heard that lifting a 2WD can cause transmission problems is that true? Hey Lenn I have a 3 inch level on the front of my truck and it does sit pretty level with the stock 4X4 I do need to add a leaf in the back but not sure if I will go that route or just go with a 6 inch lift.

I would think your transmission problems would come from having to small of rear end gears to turn bigger tires if you put some pretty big tires on it. If your gears are big enough, you shouldnt have a problem. I wouldnt lift it and put big tires on if you only have 3.55 gears for example. If you had something closer to 4.10's or higher i think it would be ok.

I don't think you'll find a 4" kit for a 2WD. Your best bet for price and dependibility would be a pro comp 6" kit.

Your tranny would really just depend on driving habits, tire size, and rear gear ratio. You'd be fine in most cases though.

Go with a 6" and I'd recommend Fabtech. It does cost a little more (only a couple hundred) but a better quality lift IMO. Tranny issues will depend on those things already mentioned by Tide. I've had my 2WD lifted now for 2 years and have had zero issues.
