are the stock rims with the round holes 7.5" wide?

buddy of mine just sold his full size bronco that had 33x12.5's on those rims for a long time. no problems whatsoever

You might have a problem with blowing the tire off the rime if air pressure is not enough or if you do alot of offroading.

i had 33x12.5 on my 92 and 95, and they both rubbed on the radius arms when i turned to the locks, getting a wider rim isnt going to solve the problem of it rubbing, its the off set of the rim thatll casue the rubbing. bigger offset puts the inside of the rim farther out hence putting more space between the radius arm and the tire. ull be fine with the 12.5, i had to set my bumper forward and inch on my 95 but other then that i never had any problems

or just get a set of wheel spacers thatll solve the rubbing problem, but then ull have alot of people saying those arent safe either, truth is anything you do to make your truck better for off roading isnt safe, lol

You'll be fine.

I did it on my ranger for a while with 15x7s, just keep en eye on the tire pressure and keep them rotated. You won't run any risk of a 'blowout' compared to a wider wheel just may observe some uneven wear

Default tires on stock wheels

i've got almost the same question, from a different angle:

i've got the OEM 16x7.5 wheel. What is the tallest, widest tire, up to 35", i can buy for it? for example, calculating height and width from the tire size, i know a 395/65R16 is more than 15" wide, and would be 34.7" tall on a 16" wheel. BUT, i strongly doubt a 15" wide tire would work well on a 7.5" wide wheel, AND, i don't think anybody makes that size.

so i asked my local tire store what's the tallest, widest tire made that will fit my wheel? they came down with a severe case of lawsuititis and won't answer the question. i'm hoping somebody here knows the answer.

thanks for your time
joe

PS 35" tall is the limit i'm going for because of the axle i'm using.

PPS correction - it's a 7" wide rim
