My job was $2000 out the door for Yukon 4.56 gears on both diffs, with both install kits (bearings etc), labor, road test, service after 500 miles, and a 12 month warranty.

In my personal experience of shopping the job (which I did extensively), number of diffs and geographic location greatly affects the cost. I decided to not base my decision solely on cost and decided to go with the shop that met the following criteria:

1.) They have done the exact job on the exact model year at least 10 times
2.) They gave me references for these jobs
3.) They gave me a flat price up front for labor, but promised to make the set up perfect and back this with at least a 12 month warranty on parts and labor.
4.) They performed a service after 500 miles

The last two I had negotiate in, and the original price was $2150 but I got them down to $2000.

Probably the most researched job I did for my truck because it is so critical tht they are set up right. Some shops didn't even want to touch the front differential (have no idea why). The shop I went with spent about 4 hours over because the shimming was challenging but I did not have to pay because we set up the price.

I have seen folks get the same job for around $1600, but I think that is a great deal. I would say for one diff. Probably around $700-800 is reasonable, and for two diffs $1800-1900 is reasonable. The performance gains were amazing and with a custom tune, I can smoke my 35 inch Toyos with ease, although I try not to because they are expensive lol. It is fun towing now and my driveline is much happier. Expensive mod, but if you commit to it, you'll be happy.

Awesome, thanks for the information. I currently have a 7 in lift. At least thats what i believe i have and i want to go with a 12 inch lift with my 3 inch body for a total of 15 inches of lift and i also want to re-gear the truck so that its not hard on the tranny. I believe that will solve that issue. Im new at all this kind of stuff, do you think I'm going about it the right way or is there more mods i would need to do so i don't hurt the truck

35's are going to hurt you more on a daily basis and towing that the current rear gear ratio. I wish my truck in its standard setup had something like a 3.73 than the 3.55. It does pretty well, but I know I'd feel more better if it had a 3.73, just havn't pulled the trigger on replacing them yet.

The smaller V8 is not the same. I can't imagine how your gas mileage is hurting with those 35s. The driveline will be taxed, but I firmly believe you won't damage your tranny so the sky is it falling. I think you have to ask yourself if you want better performance and better economy and then make the financial commitment to make that happen.

A lot of people make that commitment for bigger wheels and lift kits, but don't want to invest in gears and tuning. Then they turn into adamant advocates of "oh you don't need all that -you'll be just fine". I should know because I was one of those people and I would preach from the hilltops on this board about it. After my 4.56 gears and the tune, let's just say I have changed my tune. Single best thing I did for the enjoyment of driving my truck was adding gears and the tune.

My .02.
What kind of effects on mpg did you notice when you swapped from 3.55 to 4.56? I'm thinking of doing the same swap but don't want it to get worse than it is now(13.5 city/15.5 hwy). Before I put the 33's on I was getting 16 city/19 hwy.
