Default 289 engine

DOes anyone know anything indepth on the older Ford 289 Engine? I am considering putting one in a 4x4 F150. Just wondering if it would provide enough HP and Torque to do the job, or if i would be better off going to an I-6 300CID or a 302 or 351.

Go with a 351. If you want alot of power out of it buy an older 351 and rebuild it and put a stroker kit in it.

Don't know anything indepth as you asked. Had one in a 1968 mustang, great little engine, not sure where the other 13 cu. in. came from. Have to wait for a guru to chime in. Had a 351W in a 1973 full size car. Again ran fine and did the job. But those were different times.

If you use a 289 go with 4:11 gearing. This will give you the low end you will expect. If you find a 302 you will like it better. The 351 has been a favorite with the EB...early Bronco crowd, but now all the guys are looking for EFI 302's.
I have a 1966 EB with 302 and it will scare you with the torq.
