So after much thought I decided to tackle this project. I'll be taking the display apart and removing the green crap then putting it back together and waiting for my bulbs. I wanted to order some nice LED's but paying around 40 bucks was to much so I found some flat headed LED's:

I'll post pictures once I'm done.

Now, take this piece and clean it gently with some rubbing alcohol to make sure all the residue is off of it. This will cloud your display if you do not do it properly.
Can anyone explain the above a little better. Wouldn't wiping it down with rubbing alcohol take more of the green backing off or is he saying to wipe it down fast so there is no shadowing from any particles left behind when reinstalling it?

That's the whole point. It will still leave the outline of the numbers because there's a sticker or something on the front. It will just make it clear and allow whatever color you choose to shine through without the green distortion. It works great, just have some faith.

I already finished mine, now I just have to wait until my LED's come in. I'll be looking at white lighted gauges for a week or so.

Also, I used a blow dryer to warm the clear plastic and black face before separating. I applied low heat for about 3-4 minutes and it came apart easy. I also used non-acetone nail polish remover and that took the green crap off really fast.....A LOT faster than the alcohol did.

So I've been checking out my needles and making sure they are all back to the way they are but I have an issue with my battery voltage needle. I set it where it was based on pictures I took and then reinstalled it. After start up and shut down the needle drops all the way down past the low side.

I took the plastic front cover off while leaving everything plugged in and readjusted the voltage but this morning it dropped again. All my other needles are fine and when I start the truck the voltage needle goes up but it stops where the needle should actually be at prior to start up.

Question LED gauge lighting

Why didnt you just replace the light bulb in the stock holders?

is the voltage/amperage to much for an LED??

How much voltage is supplied to a gauge light?

The bulbs are clear but there is a green film you have to remove. Once you remove the green film then you can replace the stock bulbs with any color LED or bulb you want.

LOL. Thats not what I asked. Let me rephrase..

You have all that extra wiring hooked up to the LED bulbs. Why do you have all that extra wiring. Will the LEDs not be powered by the stock holders power supply?

Side note: Left this post in another section but since you all are having the same issue. When resoldering my digital odometer pin I was also looking to mod my gauge face plate and removed my needles, but can't re-calibrate them correctly. I saw on another forum about using a 9V battery on the needle motors to calibrate them..
