Default what's the smallest sidewall you're comfortable with?

hey everybody, just curious to you guys with plus sized rims, what is a "safe" sidewall size for daily driving (normal city, not offroad or country travel). I have a chance to buy some 24's locally, and they have the incorrect sized tires on them, but they are in great shape and like new tread. My stock tire size in my 98 F150 is 265/70 R17, the 24's have 255/30's. I am aware the speedo will be off around 3 mph, but more worried about the tires having a reliable sidewall since it will be on a full sized truck. I just dont want to shell out $1200 for these nice wheels and tires, just to bend a wheel when I can just pass on the deal, if need be.

Let me know what you all think.
Thanks!

.
Not knowing your driving style and F-150 use .....

However, with the 255/30x24 your sidewall would only be 3½". IMO too short.

For me ... 5"-6" would be a better choice. i.e. a 45% aspect ratio.

I am highly concerned with the current tire size, I want to put 305/40 's on the rims, but its senseless to replace the tires when they are less than a year old. Its just wearing the tires out, without damaging the wheels in doing so.

I have no clue how I will drive the truck, I have put 30 miles on the truck at most since I bought it. It's been in the shop since day one, needing a motor replacement. Should be out of the shop within the next week or so. But I dont beat on my vehicles, or drive stupidly. I like to have nice stuff, and like to keep stuff nice. I dont tow anything, but could possibly use my truck occasionally on the weekend if something needs moved or what not.

crossbone, can you post up a few pictures of your truck showing the stance of it with the 24's on it, please?

and btw, these wheels/tires came off of a 02-05 Explorer (not exactly sure on what year)
