Default Tire options

Today I found out just how bad the tires on my F150 are in the snow. ( BFG rugged trail, well over 50% tread life left). I literally opened my window, cut my wheels hard to the side so I could see if the front tires were spinning because my traction was so bad I thought my 4x4 had failed to engage. Good news is my 4x4 works just fine.
I work about 40 miles away from work, and calling out every time it snows is not an option. I need traction.
The two best options I can think of is to ether buy a tire grooving tool and sipe the hell out of them, or to pull them off and buy snow tires. The second option seems like a waste because the tires are fine other than in the snow, and also because I will be putting in a leveling kit this spring and if I can, I would rather wait and buy snow tires that will fit better with the new kit.
Has anyone here used a grooving tool to sipe this tire, and if so had success in gaining significant snow traction? Also is there a third option I am not thinking of?
