Anyone ever tried using the black chrome kits on a wheel that's painted/machined?

A friend of mine tried to black out some machined wheels he had and it turned out to be a total disaster. The color faded within weeks and even did damage to the chrome. I recommend taking it to a local powder coating shop and painting them there, although it would be expensive, it'd be a worth it!
