I am looking at these for when I get a camper. Easy install too.

I have a set of Roadmaster Active Suspension on my truck. It's a nice addition.

In all honesty, I think the OP is better off with an air bag solution where you can dial in the appropriate amount of pressure to level the truck and keep a nice factory ride. It's completely adjustable, and some kits are wireless with an onboard compressor.

So I went to a spring (suspension ) shop and was told when I asked about using a helper spring that anything other than placing another leaf into the mix would put undo stress on the springs ... Any thoughts on this ?

I am not sure I agree with that unless you were using something to force the springs into a unnatural position such as raised or lowered. If anything you would be relieving the springs of an excess load by using airbags.

The roadmaster active suspension helps prevent the springs from doing things that stress them such as wind-up and sagging. So I think they are incorrect to say that.

This is one reason I never really could support an add-a-leaf...especially the short ones. In my eyes they just don't provide proper support. However, a full length add I could buy into, but they aren't commonly used.

The RAS helps keep the arch, and preloads the leafs if you will, making them "active" rather than passive...more so than not at least. It's nice for the occasional haul but helps with sag, sway, axle wrap and hop.

If I kept a constant load in the truck, I think I'd look into the bags.

I'm thinking I'l pass on the extra leaf , I'm not looking to raise the truck ( although I like the look ) except for taking the women berry picking this truck won't see much dirt road or back country , I will be carrying a constant load and like the air shocks idea or assist . I know where to look at the assist but once again would like input about the air shocks or air bag ... Parts of this country receive -20 even -50 temperatures and wonder how the cold affects them

Without moisture in the line, you'll be fine.
Most of the onboard compressors are made by Viair...Google them.
Firestone's RideRite is about the best offering out there, and they make them in a couple load offerings.
