progress pics - refinishing wheels
#2
I started cleaning them up yesterday. I gave them a shot of engine degreaser and then washed them with dish soap to make sure I got all of the wax, etc off the wheels.
Started out with a 320 grit sandpaper to make sure there weren't any high spots in the damaged areas, then went to work with a thin layer of bondo. Sanded the bondo with 320 and 400 grit. Plan to do another layer of bondo in areas and will hit it with dupli-color black primer. Already primed the center caps...sanded those with 400 first.

Well I'm glad I tried the clearcoat on the center caps first. In true fashion, I didn't pay attention to the clear and bought matte finish.
2 caps sprayed with matte clear. One wheel now has color on it (no clear yet, still needs to be wet sanded in a couple places).

Well they're finished for now. Probably good 10' wheels. Based on my conditions and the fact that this was the first time I'd ever worked with bondo.
I will probably try to wet sand them in a month or so once the clear cures. The duplicolor clear kept spitting bubbles and it was kinda windy outside today so it's not as smooth as I would have liked.
