Let's Explain Metric Tire Sizes Shall We? + Misc. Tire/Wheel Specs

Metric works in MM.
1ST Number- Width of tire (ex. 265=265mm wide)
2ND Number- % of Width (ex. 265/65R18, Sidewall equals 65% of 265mm)
*this is the part everyone gets confused by 265/70r18 being taller, 265/60r18 being shorter. All same width at 265mm. *Just because a tire has a LARGER first number, does not mean the tire is TALLER just WIDER.
3RD Number- Size of rim

Bassakwards - You seem to know your stuff, I need some guidance. I have a 2012 FX4, with 20" stock rims. I want to get a bigger more aggressive AT tire. I like the Toyo Open Country. What is the biggest tire I can fit while keeping my truck stock (no level kit).

P275/60R20 would be safe. You could go wider but you risk rubbing without any lift and you risk the wheel not being wide enough to support the tire.

LT275/55r20 is the smallest Toyo MT with a wheel size of a 20'' I have installed it before without a leveling kit and did rub slightly. With the stock wheel and positive offset that also come stock, I'd say you should be fine. If there is any rubbing it will be very minimal. The 20'' I used was wider with an offset that was lower so it did stick out of the vehicle further making the turning radius wider. < exactly what you dont want when looking to fit largest size tire.
0 offset - dead center of wheel (20x9=4.5'' to where wheel mounts to vehicle)
+20 offset - 20mm towards face of wheel
-20 offset - 20mm towards rear of wheel
Stock F150 typically com with +25mm +30mm offset.
Hope this helped and didnt look like Greek

Great post! Very informative. I've got the tire measurements down, but I'm having a problem grasping the idea of wheel offsets. I am running OEM wheels/tires on my 2013 F150 (275/65R18). I am wanting a more aggressive stance (1-1.5"), but I'm having a hard time understanding what I need to make that happen. In talking with a wheel manufacturer they said my truck is currently running +30 to +40, but I don't know what I need to get. In looking around I see various offsets listed, but I'm having a hard time figuring it all out. Hoping you can help break it down for me.
