What happens to the sync screen, after aftermarket install?
Looking at doing an aftermarket audio install on my truck, the deck Im looking at doesnt have a input for the sync system. Does the display still show the temp, and thats it, or does it freak out once the audio system is out of it?

No deck will have an input for Sync unfortunately. I have seen some screens say "DVD" with the temperate and some just say "Built Ford Tough" with the temp. I am pretty sure the temp sensor is outside of the radio wiring so that will stay.

That was a concern of mine a year or so ago when I put a Kenwood in my Ford Escape (the Escape has the same info center as the F150).
All it showed was Ford Escape on the display.
As someone else mentioned, there is a product called the idatalink maestro. I have heard mixed reviews about them. Plus I think it only works on a Kenwood unit.

After having installed and removed a Rosen nav unit, finally went with a Ford OEM Nav unit.

The navigation unit keeps it alive.
It still displays the time, date, compass and temp.
You set the time to it from the Ford Navi unit.
I am very happy with mine. May cost a few more dollars, but when you start adding up the price of the Kenwood unit, the Maestro, and a front bezel, it starts to add up. Plus mine has a built in jukebox.

I haven't pulled the trigger on it myself (it's mighty tempting though), but it looks like the new Advent unit does keep Sync.

with all 2013 DNX/DNN Kenwood head units, Maestro can populate meta data on the OEM screen. The only function lost is clock as that is generated by the radio and the Kenwood radios do not provide us time to place on the screen. Maybe next year!
